FAQ

Sun King™ Product Line Category Frequently Asked Questions

What if I drop the lamp or the solar panel in a pool of water?

Both the lamp and the solar panel are reasonably water-sealed, with the goal of preventing damage from rain or accidents such as these. A brief accident such as dropping the lamp or solar panel in a fresh-water lake or river will not harm either device, as long as it is not submerged and is promptly removed from the water.

However, Sun King products are not designed to be used in salty environments: Salty seawater is corrosive to metals. Exposing the lamp or solar panel to excessive amounts of salt water or salt spray will cause the electrical connectors to rust.

What is the shelf life of Sun King products?

Sun King products should not be left to sit on the shelf unused for more than one year in warm climates, and no more than two years in controlled-climate storage (below 25°C).

If lamps are left in storage for more than one year, a small but mounting percentage of the batteries will become completely discharged, rendering the lamp unusable.

Similarly, in rest of the PRO and Home series products, Green Charging indicator displays the rate of charging with higher the bar faster is the charging.

How can I tell that my Sun King is fully charged?

In Pico Series Lamps, the LED will rapidly blink and indicate that the Battery is fully charged.

In PRO and Home series, the Solar Indicator will turn off and all the LEDs of the Batter Indicator will glow constantly.

Can I use Sun King while it is charging?

Yes. We can light up the Lamps and charge our Mobile phone while on charge.

How much time does my Sun King need to charge?

In ideal conditions i.e. strong sun, no clouds, and no shadows, Sun King will charge in 4.5 – 5 hours. However, we recommend you keep the lantern connected to the panel all day to account for cloudy periods, shadows or movement of the sun. Never worry about damaging the battery by charging it for too long: Over-charge protection is built in.

What is the light output of Sun King?

Sunking products range from 33 lumens to 600 lumens depending upon the segment of Light.

Pico Series can give upto 100 lumen, PRO series ranges to 400 lumens and Home system up to 600 lumens

Can I use Sun King if it is raining?

The Sun King solar panel is waterproof, so you can leave it outside in even the worst storms. The lamp also contains special rubber seals to prevent water damage, but it is water resistant. Advisable to use the Lamp for indoor purposes. Occasional exposure to water will not cause damage, but it should be kept indoors when possible.

Can I charge my mobile phone with a Sun King solar panel?

Sun King’s solar panel was not designed to charge mobile phones. Though it may appear to charge some phones, it will not actually charge the battery substantially, and it could even damage or destroy some phones. We strongly recommend you dissuade customers from attempting to charge their mobile phones with Sun King’s solar panel.

Does Sun King charge on cloudy days?

Yes, But the rate of charging will be reduced considerably.

Can we clean the Sunking Units?

Yes, it is advisable to clean the solar panel at regular intervals for better performance. The lamp is water resistant, so it can be wiped using wet cloth only.

Do I need to keep the solar panel covered?

Absolutely not. In fact, you should never cover the solar panel at all. Sun King’s solar panel should be laid flat with direct access to the open sky and sunlight, ensuring that there are no shadows covering the panel at any time.

What can I do to make sure my solar panel is secured on the roof?

To prevent the solar panel from being blown away or from being stolen, you can tie string or

wire to the four small holes on the solar panel’s aluminum frame. We recommend tying the other ends of the wire or string to your home or a large object.

How long will the battery last?

Sun King uses a high quality Li-ion battery that will operate for three years before it needs to be replaced. Spare batteries are available for purchase.

Do I need to do anything to manage the performance of the battery?

Sun King has a built-in computer that protects the battery from overcharging or undercharging. So you do not need to worry about using the light too much, or about how much it is charged. Simply connect your Sun King to its panel when it’s sunny, and use the light as you wish: The computer will manage the battery on its own.

What happens if the wire on my solar panel breaks?

You can replace the panel wire at our Authorized service center. Please check for the list of service centers at our “Contact Us” Section.

Can I charge Sun King with an A/C adaptor?

Therefore, It is advisable to use only the provided panel to charge the unit. During the rainy season, the panel will charge slowly but is optimized to even charge under adverse conditions.

Will the LEDs fuse?

Sun King™ Pro Solar Lantern Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Sun King Pro be charged using AC (mains) power, or from a central recharging station?

The Sun King lamps are designed to be charged from its individual solar panel efficiently. Charging the lamps over the grid can permanently damage the Charging circuit of the lamp and thereby leading to warranty void. Therefore, it is advisable to use only the provided panel for charging the unit

How can I tell when the Sun King Pro is charging?

The Sun King Pro’s 4-digit LCD display will indicate the charging strength on a scale of one through five, indicated as “00:01” (slow charging) through “00:05” (very fast charging under optimal solar conditions).

How can I tell when the Sun King Pro is finished charging?

The best way to check the battery status is to turn on the lamp, and view the LCD display, which will indicate the number of hours of light remaining: A fully charged battery will offer six or more hours of light time in “Turbo” (brightest) mode.

During charging, when the Sun King Pro’s battery is nearing a full charge, charging will be intermittently interrupted. It can therefore be assumed that if the LCD display indicating charging strength has turned off (permanently or intermittently) under sunny conditions, the battery is full. Unfortunately, the lack of a definitive “fully charged” indication can be confusing, so we are working on a better display mechanism to indicate a fully-charged state.

How Can I get an extra lamp for my Home System?

Home 60 and 120 comes with 3 lamps each of 100 lumen (Home 60) and 200 lumens (Home 120). Under submission of a defective lamp, a new lamp will be provided under warranty.
